Resume
Antonio

A prominent merchant of Venice in a melancholic mood. Antonio is honest, never trades or loans unethically and does all things kind and good like helping a poor friend in need even at the cost of his life. He is rich and influential but Shylock makes him a scapegoat using his honesty and love for his friend against him. His character is filled with extra goodness and kindness. Shlock uses this trait to exploit his true friendship with Bassanio. He is also a kind hearted man, proud of being a Christian and slightly arrogant and childish. His weakness shows up in the form of his anti-semitism. Hidden behind these traits is his solemnity and his profound love for humanity and his close friends. As Bassanio spells out, he is the noblest man.

Portia
Portia is a protagonist of William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice. A rich, beautiful, intelligent heiress of Belmont, she is bound by the lottery set forth in her father's will, which gives potential suitors the chance to choose among three caskets. If he chooses the right casket, he wins Portia's hand in marriage. If he chooses the incorrect casket, he must leave and never seek another woman in marriage. She is shown to think little of various foreign noblemen of similar rank who are most likely to seek her hand in marriage and still less of two suitors who seem to attempt her father's assigned task. Instead she favours a young but impoverished Venetian noble, Bassanio, who is also a soldier and a scholar. Bassanio goes on to choose the right casket.
